SECURITY AND STUDENT PRIVACY WARNING: It is possible for a SCORM (Sharable Content Object Reference Model) package to be designed such that it sends user data somewhere other than UNM Canvas, which could create security and student privacy (e.g., FERPA) risks. If you are working with a SCORM package from a third party (i.e., external to UNM), or if you're not sure, please contact your department's ITO (IT Officer) or your local IT support staff. They can evaluate whether an Information Security Risk Assessment is required before adding that SCORM package to your course. If required, an Assessment will help ensure vendor compliance with federal and institutional privacy regulations and requirements. If you aren't able to identify your ITO or local support staff, send an email to canvas@unm.edu for further guidance.

While UNM can provide very little support for SCORM, the SCORM player allows instructors to present their SCORM packaged multimedia presentations to a course. A SCORM package can be built in a variety of applications such as Captivate, Articulate Storylines, and Camtasia. Instructors can upload SCORM packages into a course and use them as either graded or ungraded assignments. The SCORM player will track user progress and pass interactions and grades to the gradebook.

The SCORM player is integrated which means you can enable it in your course navigation by managing your Course Navigation Links. Once the tool has been enabled in your course, you can use these instructions to upload the SCORM package as an assignment. Teaching Assistants are unable to access the SCORM tool. Only users with the Teacher or Designer role can use it.
